What date did you sit your stage 1 test?

That's the date NATS was referring to! So if you sat stage 2 say 6 months apart from stage 1, then you've got only 6 more months to wait!!

You dont have to do go for a test you are ill prepared for. It's a whole 12 months wait before another opportunity. You can ALWAYS change or re-arrange your test date to suit you so no need to rush...
