'Making money' and 'PSO-supported service' are odd bedfellows. Either a route is self-sustaining, in which case the airline can enjoy gouging the passengers until competition shows-up, or it's not...

Do we know if the majority of passengers are connecting in Glasgow and Stansted or terminating there?

If mainly connecting then a hub link might work e.g. Amsterdam gives access to Africa, China...
