But yeah I'm sure the Russians created the fog and advising them to divert was all a big ruse to get them close enough to shoot down and make it look like an accident:ok:

The CAUSE of the accident was the crew flying the plane into the ground. End of story. WHY did they do that is a little harder to ascertain for certain....

If anything is clear from the transcript, it seems that the crew for a large part ignored ATC.
If they indeed had trouble reading the numbers back, ATC reminding them...
