The nature of the damage - the fuselage splitting into 3 pieces - looks to me like it was caused by vertical forces, during the bumpy ride down the hill into the ditch, as opposed to the airplane...

The amendment to the FCOM mentioned earlier re turning off reverse if it does not kick in and leaving it alone point to the possibility IMO that instead of reverse they ended up with uncommanded...
