Perhaps the reluctance to run lean is from what we have all learned from early on about engine. Running lean can cause knocking..pre-detonation and damage to valves.

At the very least this is confusing. The "Continental Guide on Engine Care" seems to suggest that in most cases, we do what this thread seems to suggest we don't, ie run at 50-75 degrees ROP. LOP...
