Going down to MDA for a look is safe -- going below is deadly

The round and round maundering about what ATC should and should not have done is crushingly tedious and irrelevant to any instrument trained pilot.

I will try to explain an instrument pilot's view...

Why so long to release the FDR

Until the CVR and FDR are synchronised, we will not know which altimeter (radar or baro) the crew was using for altitude callouts.

In the meantime, there's very little factual ground to base...

I have been wondering about the altimeter setting. The transcript indicates 745 which is likely a QFE.

Was this a good setting: what QFE did the press plane use?
