Hover Aids

Asked and answered. Thanks. Given the down wash velocity and the looks of the sand cloud, I imagine the system gets some practical usage.

Gun Lift

Jack, re-read my post. Answers to your queries are there.

I didn't remember the details either, so I called him.

Thanks,

Cost

Tcabot,

My post reads $14.5M for an international version of the M. That is the unit price for the aircraft and everything in it. Pricing of spares, training and the like is separate, and subject...

155mm Lift

Chris had an L model and the lift was done with a USMC gun at Camp Lejeune. His weight and balance had him at around 22000 ( i.e., half fuel ). Your comments are correct re the sling limits: above 8K...

155mm Lift

Lonewolf,

Not in practice to my knowledge. SA ( Chris Geanacopoulos piloting) did it with an L model just to " get on the board " so to speak. Hook position in UH-60 is at center of lift between...

El Cheapo

Now Sans,

Your quote: " Bottom line is the C-2 isn't an el-cheapo stripper UH-60 at $20 million a pop " is a bit off the mark.

Actually, the available international version of the UH-60M is...

Slopes and Thrust Vector

SAS, your recollection of the limits re the CH-47A speed trim limits and results of mis-application in manual mode matches mine. Only point I was getting at is that the tilting of the thrust vector...

CH-47 Lingo

SAS,

McP beeping nacelles forward in a hover isn't awfully different than manually beeping the CH-47 speed trim actuators forward in hover, am I correct?

Thanks,
John

Slopes

Lonewolf, part of the UTTAS eval was to train 10 Army pilots from the 101st in the aircraft ( Boeing did as well with theirs ). Part of that syllabus was to do the entire slope envelope. The Army...

McPave

I see your point.

With regard to rearward or nose down slope landing conditions, can the pilot use full aft nacelle?

Nothing inherently wrong ( at least by comparison with pure helicopter...

McPave

Thanks for your response.

As to the last question: what design requirement led to the final aft nacelle range put into the machine, allow me to use the original UH-60 Army RFP ( request for...

V-22 Farnborough

Thanks for the response, McPave. I did notice that the nacelles never went aft, ( and thought that perhaps there was some sort of restriction in their use under those circumstances ) and now that you...

V-22 at Farnborough

Tcabot113 added to the video link:

"The V-22 looks pretty good here. Notice no pitch down, roll off or whatever the latest BS is."

Assuming the video link is a tape of the V-22 demo performance...

Tcabot,

Not sure I recall the accidents in their proper chronological order, but two Army accidents from that exact period stuck in my mind, and one that occurred at Sikorsky.

One occurred at...

Rt Pedal/Tandem Takeoff

SAS, in 1963 I was bootlegging an H-21 checkout at Mother Rucker and was lucky to have a recent returnee from the delta as an instructor. Taught that exact same takeoff "when you're out of ideas and...

VRS vis a vis Roll Off

I recall reading the article by Lt Col Gross, but just mentally pigeon-holed the roll-off events as instabilities related to the unsteady flow associated with VRS.

That was an underestimation...

V-22 Eglin

Does the V-22 have voice or flight data recorders?

Failing that, do the digital flight control computers have a limited time memory function capability?

Thanks,

JeffG,

40/800 rule and 53E's
