I suspect that the reason the Lancaster was not called the 'Manchester Mk 2' was due to the former machines history (engine issues) and consequent wish to forget it.
The name only becomes an issue...

Hurricanes in Burma

I always thought it was the Hurricane that bore the brunt of the original Burma fighting.Not only as a fighter,but in its :- Bombing,rocketing,tankbusting,and general airborne jeep on rough strips...

I do not really see what all the fuss is about.Its not as if there are some Hurricanes there.
