That's exactly what I did. So, yes. And actually US citizens can do the same, if they can find an offshore bank that will accept "US Persons" as clients! Most will not anymore, thanks to the FATCA...

You're correct, my circumstances were different - by the time I received my final pay, I had closed any bank accounts in Dubai. So cashing my final pay and wiring it independently was the only option...
