Company CRM Initial

Out of interest, how long and how thorough are company CRM initial courses around the world these days?

We do a day-and-a-half.

The first session (day one) is divided such that the pilots only talk about flight deck things and the flight attendants only talk about cabin things. We cover all the basic components such as communication, conflict resolution and human factors. We've also begun to incorporate threat and error management training.

The second session (day two) is a joint session where we talk with the pilots and flight attendants about aircraft things. We will talk about many of the same components - communication, conflict resolution, etc. - but from the standpoint of the crew. This is also where we will conduct crew emergency procedures training including a mock evacuation.

We try and use our own companies issues as examples of good and bad CRM, rather than treading out the old Tenerife video for the umpteenth time. Seems to work well and is appreciated by the crews.
