An aid worker near the scene of the crash told Reuters: “No one died but there are a number of injured people right now.” Photos from the scene show fire engines dousing the smouldering wreckage with water. |

South Supreme Plane Crash in Wau airport with no casualties. #SouthSudan #SSudan A South Supreme airplane has crashed in Wau at the Airport this afternoon after departing from Juba. The manager of South Supreme Airlines in an exclusive interview confirmed the airplane crashed but there were no casualties. He said that he has communicated with the South Supreme Airlines manager in Wau who said that all the passengers had been removed from the plane before it was destroyed by the fire. A passenger who had travelled to Wau on the same flight only days earlier remarked that it was only a matter of time before such a crash occurred. There is however no indication about the cause of the crash. Images emerging from Wau show the mangled debris of the aeroplane and a fire engine trying to extinguish the fire. The Manager, Mr. Gabriel said that all the passengers will be taken to hospital to check for any other injuries they might have incurred from the flight. The President's spokesperson, Ateny Wek, had earlier released a press statement on Facebook regarding the passengers of the plane but retracted it after confirmation from the airline that the passengers had all gotten off the plane before it burnt out. According to him, he had not been fully informed about the crash and removed it accordingly once the details emerged. |

There is a report of smoke coming from the tail of the aircraft as it was landing. Possible APU fire?

Passenger plane crashes at airport 'leaving 44 people dead' TBH, however, I suspect this may be a situation where MSN can't use the right photograph for copyright reasons (ie they won't pay for it) and possibly an automatically-generated image of 'a plane, any plane' was dug up - one where the usage rights permit re-use without paying. Don't imagine that there's an old-style picture desk scouring the photo library for just the right image for the story before publishing it. |
Dave's brother - no excuse really, there are loads of images available to use free of fees, although most require attribution.

Hmm, in that case, the fire truck theory holds more water, as the left landing gear collapsed and the fire clearly originated on the left side of the aircraft.
