Aircraft has been grounded
Really?

How did they manage to avoid getting the nose wheel in the drain? Backing up?

I doubt that they did avoid it. We're probably now looking at the only 737 that has a rearward-retracting nosewheel.

That's going to be an expensive repair.

Yes, the aircraft is level, so either there's another ditch or a lack of nosewheel. I assume it made a new wheel bay too.

I do like the bit in the article that notes that 'the aircraft has been grounded'

In typical AI fashion it won't be repaired. Just grow moss somewhere. This is not the first.

Don't know if it's (hic ) related but it looks like a bunch of the AI pilots are about to be grounded:

Over 130 pilots, 430 crew members of Air India likely to be grounded

Updated: Sep 05, 2017, 07.10 PM IST

MUMBAI: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is likely to ground over 130 pilots and 430 cabin crew members of national carrier Air India for allegedly skipping the mandatory pre and post-flight alcohol test.

These crew members had regularly been "evading" the breath analyser test over a period of time for flights to and from certain destinations such as Singapore, Kuwait, Bangkok, Ahmedabad and Goa, sources close to the development told PTI here.

"The DGCA already brought it to the notice of Air India management that its 132 pilots and 434 cabin crew have evaded the mandatory breath analyser test, which is to be taken both before and after operating a flight. It is a safety violation and it (DGCA) is taking a suitable action against these crew members," a source said.

The captain reported that the taxiway edge lights were inop (in darkness & heavy rain), as were the centreline lights for the taxiway he was cleared to:

I guess it would be too sensible to stop and request a "follow-me" pride before a fall...!

Last sentence of this article makes me ROFL

Last week, an Air India flight set for take-off to San Francisco was delayed by more than nine hours over a rat loose on the plane.

Southwest Airlines Jet Rolls Off Taxiway at Nashville Airport
by Jay Blackman and Alex Johnson

A Southwest Airlines jet carrying 138 passengers and crew rolled off off a taxiway at Nashville International Airport in Tennessee, authorities said. Eight people were injured.

Southwest Airlines Flight 31, a Boeing 737 aircraft flying from Houston, ended up stuck in the grass while taxiing to its gate about 5:30 p.m. (6:30 p.m. ET), officials told NBC News. Passengers left the aircraft by stairs and were bused to the terminal.

The Nashville Fire Department said Tuesday night that eight people were transported to TriStar Summit Medical Center suffering mostly minor bumps and bruises.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it is investigating.
