Tonight at Midnight
Tonight at Midnight the new American Airlines will switch over to the new FOS or FLight Operating System. The Reservation system, which is newer went more or less smoothly.
This new change over has the potential to be a ho hum event or a real screw up. None of the legacy AA and Legacy US systems can talk to each other. We are all going to the AA system which is older than dirt.
In the 1970's this was the leading edge of technology, now it is ancient. The new system is called DECS. I don't know what it stands for. The Legacy US system was called CATCREW. It was circa 1989. Old but reasonably understandable. Basically a DOS tyepe system.
Alexander Grahm Bell, Samuel Morse, and Thomas Edison would all feel right at home in DECS.
I am not flying tomorrow, I have the first week off....I am glad of that.
The DECS interface.
