Flight delayed after passenger becomes suspicious of equation

I'll repeat that, "Flight delayed after passenger becomes suspicious of equation."

In all probability this story will spread exponentially, but it doesn't ready add up.
But there's bound to be a multiplicity of divided views.

I think he was extrapolating mu to work out the average flight delay time between Philadelphia and Syracuse.

So working on an equation is now perceived as a threat. There's a distinct lack of education here, on the part of the woman and the "authorities", whoever they may be, not perhaps in not recognising a piece of mathematics, but in determining that the equation posed a threat. That's what paranoia does. No wonder Trump has got so far.

Thumbs down

Nothing to see! (Unfortunately!)

There was a story a while back of a German tourist who was removed from Amtrak due to security concerns because he was talking German on his cell phone.

Society here has become paranoid, ignorant and just plain stupid!

(My evil twin likes to blame it on the close proximity of NJ )

Sad, yet not surprising.

<<I think he was extrapolating mu >>

I knew it - he should have used pi.

This story is pants and has already popped up in another thread. The 'angle' that the maths had anything to do with things is totally unsubstantiated. The only facts are that the woman passenger sitting next to him became concerned about this guy's behaviour. She may have felt he groped her for all we know.

Expect more.

This is the fallout from 'TTT' (The Trump Effect).

What hope is there for a cabin crew doing a manual head count before departure and using a five bar gate as a tally!

I think that something wrong was with derived D over t, for the tramp lady.

Something else over some other more would have been better for her.

Or worse, an abacus necklace...

Reminds me of a couple of KLM flights, Changi to Amsterdam. On both occasions the FA who was sitting facing me, started to count on her fingers as the take off roll began. I was a little concerned since we seemed to be staying on the ground a lot longer than I expected. I was curious, but didn't say anything.

On the second occasion, I began to wonder whether there was a KLM league table for the longest (time) take off roll..... So I asked what she was counting, "I'm just working out what time we are due to land at Schiphol" was her reply...

Cheers!

What kind of warped thought process could possibly suggest that maths could possibly be harmful? How???
Are illiterates going to start making security allegations against people reading books?

Bear in mind the only useful thing that Trump is trying to do is to reduce this poison of political "correctness" that forces us to take serious notice of idiocy like this instead of laughing and telling them to sit down and shut up.

Seems Trump is now the focus of all that has gone before.

Odd that since he had nothing to do with any of it....

Never mind, if it floats yer boat etc...

Perhaps she saw a flaw in Navier-Stokes and was thinking of the consequences?

Your expectations are way too high. We are #32 out of #38 in math skills among advanced nations.

I get a feeling there are too many Maya (Zero,Dark,Thirty) Wannabes in this country sans her intelligence.

just crazy person

You guys are all missing the interesting detail, which is that the professor flew and the complaining woman stayed behind and was booked onto a later flight.

I think this means she was clearly the problematic one, in the eyes of the operators. It also makes the whole story a lot less interesting.
