China South diverts to AMS...

Being reported on in the Daily Fail that CZ303 diverted to AMS with low fuel after earlier diversion around Chinese military ops

"after"?

was forced to divert to Amsterdam after running out of fuel.
Gee, I dunno. You'd think most planes would divert before running out of fuel. But it's in the Daily Mail so it must be right.

I am quietly amused. In the 1990's I lived in Beijing and in the flat below mine lived the (Dutch) Airbus representative to Air China, who used to call on me a couple of times a week at least to rant, over a Heineken, about Air China's absurdly excessive fuel reserves...

That's not how we do it in Canada.

They had to make a huge detour plus the head wind:http://http://www.flightradar24.com/...CZ303/#6fff929

It was already known for at least 8 hours that they would make the fuel stop at AMS. Not sure if the flightplan was CAN-AMS AMS-LHR.

And here's the reason for those "absurdly excessive" fuel reserves: http://www.pprune.org/rumours-news/5...ver-china.html

In China, with Chinese ATC and Chinese bureaucracy and total inflexibility, you only have too much fuel if you're on fire.

Inbound heavy traffic from the Far East to Heathrow diverting to Amsterdam for fuel is not new. Can't understand all the excitement!

So, let me just make sure I've got this right. An aircraft crew following what appear to be normal and safe procedures is now headline news in that excuse for a newspaper?
