WS391 diversion

Just seen on the news WestJet flight WS391 from Halifax to Edmonton has diverted to Saskatoon due to a threat to the aircraft. "To ensure our guests' safety in response to a threat."
WestJet are saying they are thankful to the police and emergency crews in assisting, but no details on the actual threat as I type.
I wonder what the actual threat was? I will post more when I can find details, unless anyone else has more info?

Turns out it was a bomb threat, although no explosives were found on the plane.

A second WestJet flight was diverted yesterday due to "an undisclosed threat." This time passengers were injured during disembarkation.

@ Longtimer...

I know...

But my point is because the pilot's group is in the process of getting the union in and management is not too happy about it.

Given the number of normally polite Canadians booking a space in the queue to beat the heck out of this guy when he's caught, I seriously doubt anyone from the company is making the hoax calls.

^^ That made me laugh out loud. Though I imagine the Canadians will be saying sorry while they stamp on his throat...

Yet another bomb threat towards WestJet. Tonight it was WS1709 from Las Vegas to Victoria, B.C.
This is getting absolutely crazy.

(Can a mod please change the title of this thread to "WestJet Multiple Bomb Threats" as that would now be more apt to this thread)

These phony threats are an all too familiar part of the airline business unfortunately. Many end up being from disgruntled present or former airline employees in my casual observation. I'll cite a few examples below in news clippings.

Looks like they caught the perp who was calling in the threats to Delta and other U.S. carriers last month:

Man charged with calling in 11 bomb threats in two weeks

By Phillip Messing

June 29, 2015 | 7:33pm

64-year-old Manhattan man has been charged with phoning in nearly a dozen phony bomb threats to JFK Airport this month, vowing to blow up planes and kill cops, sources said Monday.

Philip Ngom, of West 116th Street, was charged with making 11 threats between June 9 and June 24, bedeviling Port Authority cops who were forced to take the threats seriously.

Ngom, a Sengalese immigrant, was held on $750,000 bail after his arraignment at Queens Criminal Court Saturday before Judge Deborah Stevens Modica on 11 counts of first-degree falsely reporting an incident and making a terrorist threat.

Another recent serial bomb threat caller turned out to be a sacked flight attendant:

Former flight attendant gets prison for bomb threats

By Mike M. Ahlers, CNN
Updated 2:38 PM ET, Tue November 26, 2013

A former flight attendant whose repeated bomb threats caused massive headaches for United Airlines and inconvenienced thousands of travelers has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.

A federal judge in Los Angeles sentenced Patrick Cau, 40, on Monday, ordering him to pay $304,495 in restitution to United and $8,838 to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Authorities said Cau, a German national also known as Patrick Kaiser, made eight bomb threats in late 2012 and early 2013 to United after being fired by the airline.

Most of the phone threats targeted United jets on his old route between Los Angeles and London.

18 months? A slap on the wrist IMO and it turns out he didn't even serve a year in the big house:

Another threat made in an attempt to get the day off:

Flight attendant calls in threat to get day off

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — A SriLankan Airlines stewardess called in a bomb threat because she wanted a day off, a newspaper reported Sunday.

Investigators traced the call and found that it was made from a mobile phone belonging to the stewardess' boyfriend, Colombo's Sunday Times weekly reported.

"The inquiry reveals that the stewardess had given the false alarm because she did not want to fly that day," it said.

The stewardess was fired, it reported.

Yet another schedule adjustment bomb threat:

AirTran F/A Accused of Bomb Threat to Get Day Off

AirTran fires attendant
accused of bomb threat

September 19, 2001

By DON PLUMMER
Atlanta Journal-Constitution Staff Writer

Turhan Lamons got his wished-for day off, but probably not in the way he had hoped.

When a supervisor turned down the rookie AirTran Airways flight attendant's request for the day off Tuesday, police say he called back -- with a bomb threat.

"All passengers on Flight 278 are going to die," was all the caller said to AirTran gate attendant Nicole Miller before he hung up.

Everyone was taken off the plane, which was moved to an area away from the terminal and searched with bomb-sniffing dogs. Passengers then had to reclaim each piece of luggage before reboarding and taking off for Boston, nearly two hours late.

But within hours Lamons, 21, of Atlanta was in jail, charged with making a false alarm and lying to investigators. On Wednesday he remained in the Clayton County Jail pending the posting of $10,000 bond on felony charges that could net Lamons 10 years in prison.

While officials at AirTran handled the call as a possible terrorist action, they don't think Lamons is a terrorist.

"We believe he is just a disgruntled employee," said AirTran spokesman Tad Hutcheson, "a tremendously disgruntled employee."

Lamons also may have been tremendously inexperienced at covering his tracks. The threatening call was made from the five-month AirTran employee's cellphone to an unlisted AirTran gate number, Hutcheson said.
The good news is that he got second chance to prove himself in the airline business at Comair.

Flight Attendant Charged With Setting Fire In Plane Lavatory

July 18, 2003

ROME, Ga. -- A ComAir flight attendant was arrested Thursday on charges he started an airplane-lavatory fire that forced an emergency landing May 8. A federal grand jury indicted Turhan Jamar Lamons, 23, on a charge of attempting to set fire to and crash ComAir Flight 5491 from Atlanta to Huntsville, Ala. The 50-passenger plane landed at the Rome airport after someone reported smoke coming from the lavatory. No one was hurt. Investigators found partly burned newspaper in the restroom. He also is charged with making a bomb threat against an AirTran flight one week after Sept. 11, 2001.

In another unrelated bomb threat, KLM has had a bomb threat today at Saint Martin, effectively closing the airfield temporarily. B744.
