Or just have hand luggage to a minimum rather than people bringing suitcases on that don't fit in if lots of people are bring them onboard

Now that's about as dumb an answer as you can get. I only take carry-on stuff that I might need in flight (change of shirt in case of coffee spill, light sweater if it's a bit cool, time-sensitive medication, etc) and I'm not alone in this

Evacuation..

It is difficult for the cabin crew in these situations.
We all know the pax should not take hand luggage but it may be better to let them take it, rather than berate them and have them dump it in the aisles creating more of a hazard.

Trossie gives the answer. My wallett , passport and cell phone are stored so as to be grabbed with ease. Once established in the cruise, I might put them in my hand case.

This topic has been much debated in the PAX forum and it is accepted that if pax arrive at thet top of the slide with a bag, the best is to just get them out.

"Considering it is nearly a year since this accident, most professional pilots here must wonder why there has not been any official report published into what caused the aircraft to taxy into a building.

British Airways have taken a view on this as the flight crew are back flying. If they were not to blame, who was? Far less serious accidents than this and the circumstances surrounding the chain of events are aired for the benefit of all professional crew to learn by. In this case, there does not appear to be any rush to get any information out."

Just like the report on the engine cowlings accident May 2013, we await with interest the full AAIB reports so that flight safety lessons are quickly aired and disseminated.

One can only presume the drafts are circulating around "Watership Down" whilst all the senior managers ensure that their a**ses are well and truly covered?

AAIB assures me the latter report is expected, but when is unknown......

Barking (and others)

BA can't publish their report until the investigating authority have published. Them's the rules. I'm guessing as the crew involved are flying again that the company report is done and dusted but the law prevents it's release.

Not asking for BA to publish, it should NOT be their prerogative.

This accident happened 17 months ago, all the "wreckage" needed was recovered, DFDRs and CVRs obtained along with crew statements and gate photos available, yet AAIB have not yet released the full report.

When I originally enquired with them, I was originally referred to the Special Bulletin produced shortly after. I then pointed out it had to be an accident by the definition and was told the AR would be released soon.

Sounds like the recommendations made in the wake of the accident to G-OBMM were not followed, so someone somewhere is thinking very hard why they should NOT be hung out to dry!

AFAIK the investigation and the report should be the responsibility of the SACAA, not the UK AAIB.

The accident occurred on SACAA's patch, the UK AAIB would assist as the state of registration.

There are, of course, some awkward questions about lighting and signage at JNB which should feature in the report.

If i recall correctly, in the early pages of this thread when the question about delays in publishing the report were first asked: I pointed out that we are talking about an African Country here.

But there ar emany countries in the world where reports that might indicate a fault on the part of the country are not published. (I only said might)

Not a problem.
SACAA are very good. Their investigations are thorough and they always publish a good report. It may take them longer than some others due to limited resources but the investigation and report will be to a very high standard.

Angry Two years on and we're still waiting for the report

This incident happened in 2013. It is now 2015. When are we likely to see a report?

Very small storm in a tea cup

So the crew having a very bad day take the wrong turn and hit a building, no one hurt, no real groundbreaking air safety issues, so why all the fuss ?

It would seem to me all this interest in the report is more about taking the Pi** and feeing superior rather than a genuine interest in flight safety issues.

Let's face it the incident was down to a simple human error, no more no less.

The A320 cowl incident is far more interesting as it resulted from the system leading people to think they had secured the cowls but had not.

Looks like they ignored the "re-use" part of "reduce, re-use and recycle." Interesting that there aren't a lot of useful spare parts in a ship like that, other than the engines which were obviously re-used.

One of the links stated 2 containers were filled with parts taken from the airframe. No doubt any thing of further use will be on its way back to UK
