London Chipperfield Airport

From today's Independent on Sunday:

<<Ambitious plans for a four-runway airport near Heathrow are to be submitted to the Government as a solution to the aviation crisis that has divided the coalition, The Independent on Sunday can reveal.

A world-leading infrastructure firm is assessing sites to the west and north-west of London which could rival, or even replace, Heathrow to challenge other European hubs in providing air links with the Far East. Sites in Oxfordshire and Berkshire could potentially be in the frame for the airport, estimated to cost £40bn to £60bn.>>

Perhaps a case of life imitating art . . .

Won't work. There's a rare newt on a nearby lake.

You want the hot news? The next new London runway will be a 2000m runway (26/08, natch) at Redhill, with a fast surface link to LGW for interlining and a rail branch to the terminal.

It's a compromise between a 3rd runway at LHR and the Estuary Airport, neither of which is ever going to happen.

You saw it here first.

Boris Island?

What happened to the 'Boris Island' plans to build a new airport on the Thames Estuary?

That, I would really like to see...

Bovingdon isn't far from Chipperfield and the West Coast Main Line isn't far away and Chipperfield is far too nice to desecrate!!

At first I thought the thread title was referring to the circus at Heathrow
