Cal A340 Damaged During Landing

ABOUT 4 OR 5 DAYS A CHINA AIRLINES A340 WAS DAMAGED DURING LANDING AT ICN, THE AIRCRAFT IS INSIDE A HANGAR AT ICN SINCE THEN.
ANYBODY KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED?

Apparently the aircraft suffered a 15cm tear in the fuselage and a shreaded tire. Investigatins by the Koreans believe the aircraft hit a runway light on landing

Monday was some 20 to 30 Kts Crosswinds there, maybe too much for a Busdriver?? Some of my former Mates told me that the Centerline was somewhere else then in the Center......

No, Continental Airlines is COA (ICAO) or CO (IATA).

You do get kind of used to it, hearing the lingo almost every day in the cockpit. The controllers are really somewhat patient too.

Thought I had learned some more during the games on TV. But this shook me off the chair! Couldn't stop laughing, very good...

How bloody insular can one get? Some people need to realise that the world extends beyond the eastern shores of the Pacific Ocean and the western shores of the Atlantic Ocean.

"Bloody insular"? For stating a fact? If you travel at all you'll find local acronyms for airlines rarely line up with ICAO or IATA.

Relax and take a deep breath. "CAL" is simply common term used among many US pilots, airline employees, etc. when talking about Continental Airlines. It's also their NYSE ticker symbol

Insular and slightly off topic here

A question before going off topic: Is "The Bus" a hard aircraft in strong crosswinds?

Well I have to admit that the same thought occured to me BUT, the world is big. CAL has allways been China Airlines for me. When I PAXed with Continental and had to refer to it, then it was either "CO" or "Continental.

But to be fair to the chap he is right CAL is also used and in financial markets to be specific CAL is Continental Airlines stock exchange code so if you are an investor or have stock you would probably refer to Continental as CAL.

Ok, I didn't mean to create a whole argument about it. I happen to be European and have lived in about 5 countries on 3 different continents over the past 20 years so you're perception that everyone in the US is insular just shows YOUR OWN preconceived notions.

My only point was that the title of the thread caused me some confusion (especially since I thought that CAL ... sorry, Continental was a Boeing only airline). If I had been posting something about Continental I would put "Continental" in the title rather than CAL just so there would be no confusion for those not used to the abbreviation.

Yes this is an aviation forum but on ANY newspaper/magazine/US based forum etc. Continental would be referred to as CAL based on their stock symbol so that is what I am used to, at present. If I lived in Asia my first thought would be China AL.

It's funny that the one that's showing himself to be bloody insular is the one making that comment. English, I suppose.
