I think Howard

Wants them to put it down no matter what.

Obviously a go around is a really dangerous maneouver and should be stopped immediately.

Of course people will be -scared- however they will be alive.
I'm wondering who decided to make this absurd report. Was Howard screaming, pleading over the phone about his rights or something?

Too much attention to one person who wants attention is my ruling.

Was number 3 on approach to 31L at Idlewild ( sorry, Kennedy ) No. 1 just over the threshold, Twr adv. No 2 " Prepare to go around " No. 2 said "Why ? " Twr. said 'cos No. 1 was only a mile ahead, No.2 said "so he needs a mile to stop - I aint a' gonna go around unless you put someone between him and me " he didn't - and neither did we. B-707's and D.C.8's involved.

Why doesn’t the FAA (in this case) demand an equivalent amount of TV time to point out that Go-Arounds are such an expected part of Ops that aircraft manufactures provide pilots with a clever little switch marked TO/GA. ( I know - they also provide Fire Handles – but no need to mention that.)

Quote:
GA's nothing more really than extra paperwork
Years ago I was with some Lufthansa pilots when one of them mentioned a ‘big change’ in Ops philosophy. Go-Arounds were now ‘encouraged’. I’m missing something in the translation here, I thought. Not really. Previously, Go-Arounds required written reports – the thought of which could delay the decisions to ………. Go-Around.

The change was that (normal) Go-Arounds were to be classed as a non event - no reports required. Very sensible, when a second or two of indecision can make a big difference.
