R22 swashplate
 

Hi folks
Just one silly question: i know that the stationary plate is mounted on a ball joint around the main rotor mast which in turn can slide up and down in response to inputs from the collective, but does actually prevent the fixed stationary portion of the swashplate from rotating with the mrs?
I know that the upper rotating part is connected to the mrs via the yoke assembly comprised of the scissors and of the counterweight to balance the scissors, so that it is spun by the mrs.

The swash plate is effectively a horizontal thrust bearing that as you say remains stationary but action from the stick causes a gimbal action type of movement so as to transmit the required command from the hand on the stick/pole/Column, I have not taken one apart but it may contain three main parts the stationary base, the one fixed to the rotating blades via the yolk controls and one (or more) intermediate section housing the bearings very simply almost like the thrust bearing on a clutch mechanism .. but very critical to life.

The lower swashplate is attached to the mast by a scissor link. This lower scissor prevents the 'fixed stationary portion of the swashplate from rotating with the mrs'.

Never noticed the lower scissor link! Is it visible or you will have to remove the fairings? Also shouldn t it be secured to the fuselage instead, since the rotor mast is spinning as well?

The Robinson transmissions are a little different from most in that the transmission casings have a long neck with a bearing at the top. The scissor link is attached to the top front portion just below the fairing which may put it out of sight from the ground with the collective down.

Ok, so if i understand it correctly the lower scissor is anchored to the casing of main rotor transmission which is partially covered by the fairing.

Btw even though i am not in any sort of way involved nor related to the author i would like to bring to your attention a book written by Theriault about the R22 systems for those of you who wish to know a bit more about this wonderful piece of machinery!
