So are they any good or not?
Im looking at going to New Zealand to do my helicopter license with HeliFlight NZ. A friend of the family has recently come back from there (thats how I know about pprune :-)and he raves about the great time he had there and thats why I have chosen them. Reading this forum I am starting to have doubts. Are they really as bad as some of you are making out? Is there another company I should consider?

Gidday mate. Glad to hear you are considering flying in good ole NZ. While there are a few good helo schools here, Heli-flight is one of the best I have come across ( I have trained with others).
What your family friend said was right.
The guy Biffhead has some real issues, not making it is one of them. Back to flipping burgers.
Feel free to PM me.

Heliflight
Look around before you make the big choice about where to fly.
The flying in NZ is great and its the topography and weather that makes it that way, not a certain company.
Heliflight NZ have spent alot of marketing dollars in the UK as a way to divorce themselves from a lucrative Massey University contract.
While this contract made Heliflight the large operation it is today, it is also the source of the disgruntled individuals you see here.
They got too big too fast and lost the personal touch they think they still have.
I am sure they would love your business as Massey have pulled the pin on them and that means 90% of their flying is no more.
Heliflight and Massey are now in court making these posts look like warm fuzzies in comparison.
There are some good trainers in Auckland still.
Try North Shore Helicopters and Ardmore Helicopters, They both train students from overseas and both are smaller schools that retain the good points Heliflight once had.

HeliPro is also well worth a look.
I did some time there, and not only do you get some good training, you also get to go out on commercial jobs and get to see what its like working the helicopters.
Friendly staff, and a cool atmosphere.

Bruce Harvey in Taupo, or Simon Spencer-Bower at Wanaka Helicopters are both worth talking to as well.
Do some carefull reseach before you start handing over large sums of cash. Maybe narrow it down to a couple, and do a Trial lesson with each to get a feel for the school. Talk to some of the big companys who dont have schools, and see who they recommend.
