G-INFO beware!

If now't else to do suggest you try this little exercise - you might, or might not, be surprised with the result......

Using CAA G-INFO database - how many helicopters does it say are on the G-register?
Inserting 'helicopter' into 'Aircraft type/name' produces a seemingly healthy number (686) so one could be thinking that the figure was valid - but it is way off the mark........
Appears to ignore various 139s, 92s and 225s and other later types submitted using EASA proforma.....

Your search will find anything with "Helicopter" in the Manufacturer's name, eg "BRANTLY HELICOPTER CORPORATION". It won't find Sikorsky, which is "SIKORSKY AIRCRAFT", "COSTRUZIONI AERONAUTICHE GIOVANNI AGUSTA SPA", etc.

There doesn't seem to be a search option for "aircraft class" unfortunately.

Well, 'Helicopter' is not really what is intended as a 'Type'. If you enter S92, EC225, AW189 etc you will see them listed

You can also use * as a wildcard. For instance, searching "Aircraft Type/Name" with BEECH 200 will only return BEECH 200, however searching on BEECH*200 will return BEECH 200 and BEECH B200. Data can also be entered in any combination of the search fields to further refine your search.

The "Aircraft type/name" search field simultaneously searches on the manufacturer, full type name, popular name and generic name of the aircraft. If you are unsure of the designation of an aircraft put in the simplest description of the aircraft (generic name), e.g. PA34 for a Piper PA-34-200T, a single line listing of all examples will appear. From the information displayed you will be able to refine your search to reduce the number of records retrieved.

Alternatively enter the popular name for the aircraft, e.g. Citation for a Cessna 500, a single line listing of all examples will appear. From the information displayed you will be able to refine your search to reduce the number of records retrieved.

The "ICAO Aircraft Type Designator" field searches on the two, three or four letter designator code published by ICAO under "DOC 8643 - Aircraft Type Designators" at www.icao.int . The search phrase entered should be an exact match of the ICAO Aircraft Type Designator, e.g. a search for designator A31 will only return A31 and will not return A310, A318 and A319.

have to admit - seems strange that you cannot extract such simple information from the database with a simple query - but then it is the CAA!!
Aircraft Type - is therefore not Aircraft Class - how difficult can it be/
Are they seriously saying that to ascertain total numbers - you have to insert each and every helicopter type........................

You can just do manufacturer. There ain't that many.

So I expect every helicopter owner will soon be receiving a letter from Leeds East Airport offering cheap fuel, landings and bacon sarnies? ah the joys of having your address uncontrollably in the public domain.

but then it is the CAA
EESDL - perhaps some praise for the CAA is really due because they publish annual fleet stats which gives the total fleet in weight categories. The categories are 0-750kg, 751-5700, 5701-15000, and then they split it out by CofA/Permit category. The total at 1st Jan 2016 was 1258. Thanks Helihub - have got that list - the obvious problem, for this purpose, is the specific weight category.

Be careful dishing out the praise - the CAA is still in debit as far as I'm concerned. It can only get away with what it does because it has a monopoly ;-)
Grounds for mis-selling under the Trades Description Act I feel - especially in the FCL department - advice and turnaround times are unacceptable. They even fail to meet their own generous targets.
If the service was 'free' then you have to take it for what it is but.......
Anyway - CAA gripes can be found on another thread
