Gazelle - CAA issues MPD

5 October

UK CAA issued a Mandatory Permit Directive affecting Westland Gazelle AH.Mk1, HT.Mk2 and HT.Mk3 helicopters.

main rotor hub torsion bars - inspection.

Extends the applicability of EASA AD to cover the UK ex-military fleet, as identified in Airbus Helicopters Alert Service Bulletin No. SA341/342-05.40

Several cases of cracks were found in the polyurethane coating of the main rotor hob torsion bars, P/N 704A33633274 installed on military SA341 helicopters, and the parts may also be installed on civilian SA 341 and SA 342. May indicate or lead to corrosion.

Compliance with the MPD to be recorded in the aircraft logbook

Hmmm, problems in the past on both Gazelle and Lynx leading to the loss of the aircraft and crews.
