Aerial Projection: Saturday Night at the Movies

Fantastic concept, has anyone seen it from the ground, is it visible?

Yes it is. I was on the team that just did this. Launching and recovering a banner at night was also a record. We launched it from a barge on the Hudson River. I will post more pictures when I have better internet.

Look forward to hearing about it, Gordy

I did three banners on the same cable at night: does that qualify for a record, too?

Does it take a Huey to haul the Projector Equipment?

Presume they would need something onboard to generate sufficient power for the projectors also?

John---I can only guess it did, but not sure if a record has been established.

Sasless---Yep, or we may try a 76 in Los Angeles, you can see the the projectors at about 0.29 in the video---they are HUGE.

Bell Ringer--We used batteries but will probably hook it into the standby generator next time.

I have written an article about it but need to run it by Simon as a lot of it is proprietary information. Will hopefully post it tonight.

Was anything used to stabilise the projectors?

FH1100 pilot is proud to say that he knows the young man who flew the banner ship, and you would be hard-pressed to find finer, smoother, more competent pilot. I'm glad it was him and not me

Great job by all involved.

You realize that was NOT him in the video right. The pilot in the video was one of the safety pilots during testing.

The projectors were stabilized and insulated from vibration.

Ahh my bad, Gordy. I thought when I saw him that he was your nighttime 407 pilot as well. Either way, if that pilot was involved I'm sure he did his best to make the operation a success, and I'm also sure he made things enjoyable and fun. There's no one who loves flying more than Brandon ;-)

Yep, Brandon was one of the safety pilots and did the flying back and forth to Connecticut for the test flights.

There is a promising future for motion picture banners. In 10? years to come, more likely one helicopter towing a led fabric banner.
Love to know what the limitations are in regard to weight and drag.
