Great article about Mike Smith in the Western Morning News Saturday 9th April 16.
Pictures and accounts of life at Nanga Gaat in 1965. Mike was the flight commander of 848 'B' Flight. I well remember him dangling on a rope underneath the helicopter,flying down the river with dense jungle as far as the eye could see, to locate some injured soldiers. I can't remember if he got recognition for his daring exploit. He was a great boss.

I think the late Lt Cdr John Rawlins was B flight commander & Mike the squadron QHI & madman!

I think there are a few hazy memories in this story!
