limitation to licence endorsement - complicated types

Afternoon everyone,

Does the limitation still exist in EASA land, about being limited to no more than 3 complicated multi engine types being endorsed on your licence?

I guess you are referring to ORO.FC.240 which basically regulates the number of different types flown from an operator's perspective. However, it does not limit the number of type rating endorsements on your licence.

I believe the correct definition is "complex".
I also am not sure whether it applies to rotorcraft types as they are by nature "complicated".

Not true under EASA:

The term ‘complex motor-powered aircraft’ is defined in the Basic Regulation (EC No 216/2008) as follows:
‘complex motor-powered aircraft’ shall mean:
(i) an aeroplane:

• with a maximum certificated take-off mass exceeding 5 700 kg, or
• certificated for a maximum passenger seating configuration of more than nineteen, or
• certificated for operation with a minimum crew of at least two pilots, or
• equipped with (a) turbojet engine(s) or more than one turboprop engine, or

(ii) a helicopter certificated:

• for a maximum take-off mass exceeding 3 175 kg, or
• for a maximum passenger seating configuration of more than nine, or
• for operation with a minimum crew of at least two pilots, or

(iii) a tilt rotor aircraft;

So, what is complicated, other than me of course.

Mmmmm ...

Interestingly ... in the UAE there IS (was?) a limitation on the number of types that one can have on one's license at any one time ... and that number is (was?) 3 ..

If an operator wishes to have a pilot with 3 types already on his license fly another a/c type they are (were) required to have one of the previous type ratings dropped off the license in question ...

So it would seem that ... that WAS the interpretation of the regulation in some areas.
