Prince Harry flies the Tiger in Oz

Prince Harry has spent his first two weeks in the Australian Army in the Northern Territory with Indigenous NORFORCE soldiers and the 1st Brigade, flying a Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter (ARH).

Captain Wales, as he is also known, undertook flight simulation training before heading out with members of the 1st Aviation Regiment on an ARH reconnaissance flight from Robertson Barracks in Darwin.

He has also been participating in the day-to-day activities of soldiering, and joined in a game of wheelchair AFL with soldiers from the Soldier Recovery Centre.

The Prince began his one-month secondment with the Australian Army earlier in April, and earlier visited a remote Aboriginal community in Western Australia with NORFORCE.

During his time in Australia Prince Harry is set to also spend time with the Army's Sydney-based 6th Aviation Regiment and SAS commandos in Perth.

Prince Harry, who flew two tours in Afghanistan as a British Army Apache helicopter pilot between September 2012 and January 2013, follows his brother William, father Prince Charles and uncle Prince Andrew who also flew helicopters during their military service.

Commanding Officer of Darwin's 1st Brigade, Brigadier Mick Ryan earlier refused to confirm whether the 30-year-old prince would jump into the cockpit of the attack helicopter during his four-week stint with the ADF.

"Captain Wales, when he is attached to the 1st Brigade, will work with various units ... that will include detachments to NORFORCE, as well as to an aviation unit," Brigadier Ryan said.

"He may fly, but that will be under the discretion of the commanding officer of the aviation unit. We have world class combat aviators here, and they will be able to make decisions based on that."

Captain Wales' attachment with the ADF will continue after Gallipoli commemorations in Turkey, when he will return to Australia.
