AHIA - Next Avalon Airshow

AHIA activities at the Avalon International Airshow 2015 - Updates.

RE: Meeting AHIA Secretary and Airshow staff at Avalon on 21 Jan '15.

Aerospace Australia Limited, the organisers of the Avalon International Airshow 2015, is the Founding Corporate Sponsor of the Australian Helicopter Industry Association (AHIA). It was through their assistance the AHIA was launched in November 2012. Since that time the AHIA has been provided with space to promote our industry at Avalon International Airshow 2013 and later at Pacific 2013 International Maritime Exposition at Darling Harbour, Sydney.

AHIA at Avalon 2015. The AHIA will be involved with three promotional activities;

• The AHIA booth in a pavilion, where helicopter enthusiasts can have a chat with AHIA people and learn more about our versatile industry and membership benefits.

• An AHIA Technical Conference in the Conference Hall on Thursday 26 February 2015. Five sessions have been booked by key players in our industry, including ASA and CASA.

• The AHIA ‘Heli-Park’ where helicopter owners can place their machines on static display. AHIA will coordinate bookings and airshow staff will provide ground marshalling. Strict conditions apply; free parking and airshow passes will be provided.

Programme. The Avalon International Airshow 2105 consists of four trade and three public days. It will be staged at Avalon Airport, Geelong, Australia, between 24 February and 1 March 2015 with the final three days, 27 February to 1 March, open to the public. Trade days run from 2.00pm on Tue 24 Feb ’15 to 2.00pm on Fri 27 Feb ’15. The public days start at 2.00pm on Fri 27 Feb ’15 and end at 6.00pm on Sun 1 Mar ’15.

Flying Displays.
Tue 24 to Thu 26 Feb ’15. 12.00pm to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 2.00pm and 4.00pm to 5.30pm. Fri 27 Feb ’15, 2.00pm to 9.15pm (Night displays). Sat 28 Feb and Sun 1 Mar ’15 flying programme runs from 9.45am to 4.30pm daily.

AHIA Heli-Park static display area. Avalon organisers want to provide a strong visual feature by establishing a large number of closely parked machines in a very prominent and central point in the outdoor static display areas adjacent to the pavilions. This will enable the rotor wing industry to promote itself to the Australian general public and potential overseas clients.

It is no secret CEO, Ian Honnery, wants helicopters to take centre stage at this year’s event. Ian has offered free helicopter parking for AHIA and industry members in the Heli-Park. An ‘AHIA Helicopter Meeting Place’ (9 X 8m tent with small fridge, tea & coffee making equipment) will be located close to the area for helicopter people. Helicopter enthusiasts and their families can catch their breath as they view the nearby trade and static displays.

Owners placing their helicopters in the AHIA Heli-Park on static display must arrive prior to the start of the airshow and not leave until the airshow has concluded. Preferably by 5.00pm Mon 23 Feb ’15 but not later than 11.30am on Tue 24 Feb ’15. (Problem getting a slot between heavy and fast jet aircraft arrivals). Departure not before 6.00pm on Sun 1 Mar ’15. At least two complimentary passes for entire airshow will be issued for the each aircraft. Parking is free. Access will be coordinated by the AHIA. (Call 0145 641 774 or [email protected])

Registration, prior approval and appropriate operational and safety briefings are mandatory prior to entry into AHIA Heli-Park. Emergency services helicopters on stand-by for SAR, fire-fighting, police and other emergency service operations are able to exit with 30 minutes prior notice; but other helicopters are required to be in fixed static-display and are not able to leave before the show finishes.

Helicopters on static display within the AHIA Heli-Park are allowed limited advertising signage, for example, an inverted “V” board. Scenic and training operators are encouraged to use this complimentary facility. Brochures are permitted for marketing; however, they can only be distributed by a staff member from beside the helicopter on display.

This facility may suit the very popular helicopter safari organisers. Come to the Airshow, show your machine to the world and park in the centre of all the action – and the price is right!

Southern Helipad for short term stays. Early expressions of interest indicate an overflow from the AHIA Heli-Park long term static display area may occur and a second helipad, the ‘Southern Helipad’ has been established. Helicopter owners and their guests visiting the airshow on a daily basis are most welcome in this helicopter parking area which is about 500 metres south of the AHIA Heli-Park in the pavilion area. Parking is complimentary; however, normal ticketing procedures for entry to the airshow are necessary. In addition, compliance with Airshow 2015 AIRSUP HO3/15 procedures is mandatory due to operations by fast jet and heavy military aircraft. See AIRSHOW 2015 - AUSTRALIAN INTERNATIONAL AIRSHOW AND AEROSPACE & DEFENCE EXPOSITION - 24 February to 1 March 2015 GEELONG VICTORIA or call Aircraft Operations Administration on 03 5282 0525.

Please note operations to the Southern Helipad do not involve the AHIA in the approval and registration process. You must register directly with the airshow staff as stated in the ‘flying in’ advisories at AIRSHOW 2015 - AUSTRALIAN INTERNATIONAL AIRSHOW AND AEROSPACE & DEFENCE EXPOSITION - 24 February to 1 March 2015 GEELONG VICTORIA and relevant Airservices Airshow 2015 AIRSUP HO3/15 procedures .

Latest news: VETERANS' RETREAT. Australian and New Zealand war veterans will be made especially welcome at the Australian International Airshow at Avalon Airport. Event organisers will provide an exclusive rest and recreation precinct especially for the comfort and enjoyment of those who have served in times of conflict. This comfortable, air conditioned facility will be the perfect venue in which to relax or catch up with old comrades.

The Veterans' Retreat will be located opposite the entrance to Hall 2 of the Aerospace Expo with close access to all the action and excitement of the Airshow. It will be hosted and operated by members of the Royal Australian Air Force Association and be open to all Australian and New Zealand veterans (Army, Navy and Air Force).

The airshow will be the first significant observance of the Gallipoli campaign in its centenary year.
This spectacular event will feature a cavalcade of military aircraft from 1915 to the present day including no fewer than 16 World War One replica warbirds.

There will also be a host of World War Two aircraft, pioneer jets from the Korean era and modern, supersonic, hi-tech jets from the RAAF and the Air Forces of many other nations. A series of spectacular battlefield re-enactments will provide a unique dimension to Airshow 2015. These ground warfare scenarios will feature military re-enactment personnel in authentic period uniform, military vehicles and historic artillery and weaponry.

Entry to the Veterans' Retreat is complementary however the standard airshow entry fee applies. The Australian International Airshow has scheduled public sessions on the afternoon of Friday 27th February and then all day Saturday and Sunday.

AHIA - Heli-Park Expressions of Interest.

URGENT

Forgot to mention the closing date for parking expressions of interest in the static display area near the main pavilions is 15 Feb '15.

This date is necessary so ground staff can survey available area and allocated the best space for all concerned. As you can imagine there are different rotor configurations to sort out,

Limited space left. Just let us know - [email protected] or 0415 641 774.

Complimentary Exhibitor passes will be provided for two people with each aircraft. Covers both trade and public days. All of Airshow days.
