new head of CASA in australia

what a terrible disappointment for australian ga and the helicopter industry that another military man is put in charge of civilian aviation.

as if all the past military heads of CAA, (i'll leave the safety part out as there is less safety under our new rubbish), did anything to enhance our industry.

john "the screaming skull" mccormick has walked away with massive super and thrown a hand grenade back through the door, what a disgrace.

rumour has it that he has taken up residence in montreal with the organization that wrote the crap that we have to try and live with. is that why he did it? for the job?

those who though dick smith did a lousy job have a new criteria to work off.

so they searched the world for a suitable candidate and couldn't find anyone, rubbish.

what on earth do they think when selecting?

what other government authority has a military man in charge.

they are known in most countries as dictators and the are getting deposed regularly.

very few of these caa heads have had to put their hand in their pocket ever, from school to airforce to airline to casa, they have no idea what it costs to operate and make a profit in aviation. mccormick said, and his minnions follow suit, that there will be no cost to industry. what planet is he on?.

these edicts were written for a whole group of countries to align them somehow. different rules everywhere.
we are one continent with one language and we were doing very well thank you, well as well as one can in this day.

with 10,000 hours in bell 47's i cannot do an endorsement on type as i don't meet their ludicrous criteria. many very experienced pilots throughout the country cannot do the work they were doing under the restrictions of this ill thought out legislation.

i've been in aviaion for 52 years and never thought i would see such unreasonable regulation imposed on industry. if i was paranoid i woud seriously think that that the goal is to bring us down.

when i was at a caa meeting at the beginning of this debacle i said to the room that i thought some operators would find it all to onerous, roger weeks agreed and replied to my amazment that they though some would not survive. what kind of arrogance is that from taxpayer funded officials to eighty heads of industry?. what a statement.

there are so many things wrong here but there are remedies that can sort it out as long as we can speak logically to reasonable people.

lets hope that our new head who was very well trained to obey orders and take expendable multi million dollar war machines and go out and kill people understands that we are quite the opposite, we and our aircraft are not expendable, we have to safely take our machines there and back and earn our own money to do it again tomorrow and tomorrow.

lets hope there is sanity. lets hope we are at least smiling soon.

Lets not condemn the man simply for his background.

He will have history somewhere. It isn't beyond the bounds of possibility that in his history may be indications of some form of empathy, or as in the case of the skull, lack therof.

His actions will be his standard by which he shall finally be judged.

As the screaming skull shall be condemned.
