Careful where you park your helicopter

An Army National Guard Blackhawk Helicopter got a ticket in Boulder recently when helping out during the recent flooding.

Gordy - got to be careful where you set down!

It turns out one Colorado cop has quite the sense of humor.

The Blackhawk was part of the Army National Guard units called in to help rescue stranded victims of the Colorado flood.

He had to park in the street, and he got ticketed for "facing the wrong way" and "parking in a no parking zone."

We found the image on a Reddit post titled: "Blackhawk pilot must land on a street in Colorado to help in a rescue from the floods; gets this amusing ticket from local police in return."

The Redditor also posted this image of the helicopter parked in the street and this image, as verification.

But don't worry, another commenter claiming police experience pointed out that there "no court date" and no "section codes for violations" — so it had to be a practical joke.

In UK, some **** would probably do it for real.

On the other hand, police here usually have sense of humour, too.
I once landed on a sports pitch in very poor weather (all planned in advance) and then had to leave the aircraft locked but unsupervised for a while (went off to find something to eat, hadn't eaten all day).

When I came back fifteen minutes later there were three police cars in attendance.

As I approached, a policewoman walked up to me and said: "Is this your vehicle, Sir?"

I nodded and asked if everything was OK.

"Yes, everything's obviously fine, Sir - it's just that I've waited years to say that to a helicopter pilot!"

We had a laugh about it, they had a quick look inside the helicopter and they all went happily on their way.

Ha.... Yep, I was there but not flying the Black Hawk.....

I was flying radio techs around all that day putting up mobile repeaters on the highest point of each of the affected valleys. Here is a picture while I waited on the tech....this is on Kenny Mountain----nowhere to land so he had to hike a mile to the spot and I slung load the repeaters in.

Looking down the valley:

One of the places I could land on the top---you can see the flagging on the repeater antenna supports:

Landed on a road in Lyons and took this---I did not get a ticket...

North St. Vrain drainage dam break...

For those that do not know------this is the worst flooding ever in Colorado and the larges aerial evacuation since Katrina. There are literally thousands of people cut off due to roads being washed out.
