AW139 Emergency return to Doha

On Wednesday 18th April a Gulf Helicopter AW139 made an Emergency return to Doha airport while transferring personnel offshore.

All further flights cancelled until further notice.

Any other information anybody ??

Regards HH93

Flights never stopped eh

Gulf Helicopters might not have stopped the flights but Maersk certainly stopped all the flights carrying their personnel

It's now 3rd time lucky for Gulf Helicopters that no one has been hurt after a tail related incident, glad all pax are okay.

I am interested to know if they got to fly the scenario we have done in the sim with the shallow approach after determining how slow you can fly the approach, and steering with the collective on the ground and all that stuff or was it all more benign than that ?

Alternative Transportation Offshore

Flights never stopped. Traffic as usual.
No helicopters since 18th April; boats organised from Ras Laffan to Al Shaheen and back commence Sunday 22nd. Until it's deemed safe for employees & contractors to travel offshore by helicopter.

There is a common denominator here and it is not just the 139.

It's time for Agusta Westland to pull their thumb out of their bumb and fix tail rotor issues, either that or clients start to refuse to fly in them!

I believe it was similar to the Norsk S-92 incident a few years ago - loss of right pedal control.

The final line of the official AW statement to operators says:

The Customer is continuing its flight operations with the AW139 fleet.
