Tail Take Off

You are right, Malcom Soper was a true gent. His reading of the S61N checklist item "tail wheel lock" with the emphasis on the "h" in wheel will always be remembered fondly.

Speechless Two

I believe it was Russ Smith who lost the top of his cockpit in the late 70s. He used to tell the tails of that exploit when we used to fly from Unst in the early 80s. Another gent to fly with.

Memories!

It was indeed Russ Smith who cut the top of S-61 G-AZNE.

Not a great quality pic but this was the result.

Talking

Yes, the good old Shoreham Airport, Lancing College and BATB. That aircraft was in Singapore 9V-BMN early 80s for a few years before it went back to Evergreen.

G-BFMY Onion Range June 15 1996

Whilst doing "Death by Onion" caught in Blizzard and had to shut down. Aircraft sunk into the peat and had to be dug out the following day.

Unst.

Unst hangar.

Wating for the next rotation.

Also waiting.

On the way to the Ninian, again!

B/Cal. used to drop in for fuel occasionally. The late Bob Rusk, another premature and tragic loss, is on his way to ground run the BHL. S61.

More Unst.

SA330J

If you look closely, you will see RI is covered in cement dust. It was on the helideck when the cement/mud pipe burst. It took two days to get it cleaned and back on line.

Shut down for the night while shuttling in the mid nineties.
A little light icing. Piccie was taken 15 minutes after shutdown and 10 in the hangar!!

Steve Harrison, Michel Zinguerevitch, Pete Cole & Kevin Pickereing.

Sadly another name to add to those no longer with us - Mike Barry. I don't know much of Mike's time in Bristow except he flew both rotary and fixed wing during the 70's and early 80's. He later worked for BCAL Helicopters in ABZ and also flew for them on the contract with the Met. Police ASU before emigrating to Canada.

The photo is an ancient one from our RN wings photo in 1965 as I don't have another one of him. He died in Toronto on 25 July of lung, liver and kidney cancer.

Bellboy or anyone else who might know.

How many 212s do Bristows still operate? Which are they and where?

As Far as I am aware there are three 212s still in Civy registration G-BFER and G-BALZ in Mauritania with G-BIXV in Kazakhstan.

Thanks bellboy. What about the overseas registered ones? Have they all been disposed of?

Here is an unusual one of G-BFER taken in Svalbard in 2004 apparently
