"R44 taking off under the hangar roof... http://xpock.com/?p=975"

Sad stuff, but when the camera man sides up to the pilot in the wreck and says "Ride's over, huh?" I was on the floor crying with laughter. Laconic humor at its best.

Not a chinook... frog

Gentlemen and ladies, that is not a CH-47... that is a CH-46 Sea Knight. THe only reason I offer the correction is that I THINK this particular airframe was flown by a Massachusetts resident, a female marine aviator. The entire crew WAS killed in the crash... and my depest respect goes out to the familes of all the departed.

Look closely as the aircraft comes at us and you can see the lack of sponsons on the front, the sponsons on the back where the wheels are and the most telling clue ... the single front landing gear strut.

Semper fi.......

I think liveleak should remove the text and the ''music''! It obviously contains some sort of terrorist propaganda. It is not right to watch people die!

Just my humble opinion.

i second that motion!! most strenuously~!~

an interesting side note. Combat Aircraft Magazine has a small crash report on this incident, names the crews ( It WAS the female Marine Captain i was refering to) and states its the first time in conflict that the insurgency used a KNOWN sophistocated weapon against a helicopter..... IE MANSAM.

Hi Mike,

I have an old VHS-Video of my wings parade at Culdrose - not quite sure who was flying there, the sharks or the pussers pair.
Need to digitise that some day - how urgent and for what reason do you need it?

Greetings "Flying Bull"

Oh look what I’ve found. Not the Sharks but the routines are similar. Turn your speakers up and be there.
Excuse me if I seem a little over enthusiastic but some people love football and other sports. This is my passion.

Does anyone know if these are jet or petrol engines as it sounds like a bit of both ?

They are Radial piston engines. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamov_Ka-26. The high pitch whine could be a supercharger but not sure as there is no mention in the text.

The pilot of the S58 did pretty well really. Jettisoned the load, pulled back the SSLs and cushioned the landing, all in about 200'. Hats off, I say.
