Flying 22's in the USA

A Q for you US guys - I just spoke to my FBO regarding US SFAR73 training and he tells me all autos will be done to the IGE power recovery. Is it usual to do contact autos in the US while training, and if yes, at what stage of training is it done? Thanks.

Normally only for flight instructor training are auto's done to the ground.

Mostly insurance reasons.

R22 Full Down Auto

The norm for full down autos in the R22 here in Yankland is at the Flight Instructor stage only - with exception of Robinsons R22 school in LA and the occasional school here and there (research needed)
However, there are many schools flying the 300CBi that will do the full down auto at the PPL stage as this aircraft is more stable and alot more forgiving.

Hope this info helps

Autos are done to the ground in training. I'm only in my 8th hour of training to add a helo rating so I made a point of asking today after reading this post the other day. My mistake was asking before we were done training today. eesh.

And around here headsets are provided in the R22. Not sure whey they're not provided more for fixed-wing rentals. The new R22s come standard with the Bose X which are EXCELLENT!
