______________
KERTIH, April 16 (Bernama) -- Two pilots and seven offshore oil rig workers escaped unhurt after their helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing in some bushes shortly after take off, about two kilometres from the Kertih Airport here Saturday.
Malaysian Helicopter Services (MHS) Aviation Berhad chief executive officer, Ma'som Mahadi said the incident happened at 10.50 am when the Sikorsky S61N was ferrying the workers of contractors for ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc (EMEPMI) and Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) to offshore oil rigs in the South China Sea.
As a result of the incident, Ma'som said that the company had suspended all its flights involving Sikorsky helicopters until a complete report regarding the matter was obtained from the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).
"The pilot had contacted the control tower to inform of the incident and a rescue team which arrived at 11.02 am found the helicopter nestling in some bushes by the side of the road leading to the airport,".
"All onboard were safe and were sent to Petronas' Rantau Clinic here for observation. They were given outpatient treatment and no serious injuries were reported." he told a press conference at the Kertih Airport Saturday.
Also present were chairman of ExxonMobil's subsidiaries in Malaysia, Rob Fisher and Petronas' Eastern Region general manager, Mosir Abdul Hamid.

Ma'som said that the helicopter piloted by Kapten Wan Kamil Wan Muda and assisted by Kapten Abdul Malik Masduki, had taken off only minutes and was at a height of 500 feet (150 metres) when it was forced to make the emergency landing. "Thankfully, the captain who has vast flying experience, managed to make the landing well, though the helicopter was said to be spinning before it landed.
"We have 10 helicopters and have clocked 470,000 flying hours without incident. This is the first incident since MHS began operations in Kertih in 1983," he said.
Ma'som said that a DCA investigation team was expected to arrive later today.

He said the company had three Sikorsky type helicopters which had a capacity for 19 passengers each and that the one involved in the incident today had been in service for 35 years.
He also said that the helicopters underwent scheduled maintenance every day.
Meanwhile, a visit by Bernama to the scene found the helicopter to be covered by tarpaulin and heavily guarded by police. Reporters were not allowed to get close to the helicopter.
It also attracted a large crowd who wanted to know what was going on.
