OEB vs ECAM

According to Airbus when the PF asks for ECAM ACTIONS the PM starts with the ECAM or OEB, if applicable. In case of engine fail there's no OEB so we apply the ECAM. Before reading STATUS PF says STOP ECAM...any OEB's, Resets, Checklists? I mentioned it to some of my instructors that we shouldn't say "any OEB's" because the OEB supersedes the ECAM and you never get to STATUS if you are applying an OEB.:=All the instructors still think that's a good idea to consider OEB's before reading status. In my previous company if there was an OEB we read it instead of the ECAM. If we applied the ECAM, before STATUS we considered computer resets, normal checklists or Eng relight if applicable.
It was a former procedure in Airbus but it was removed from the flight instructor's media so I don't know why my airline is still applying this old concept? Am I missing something??

No you are not, it's just the way it is. At least, that's my take on it, glad to be corrected.
Anyway, there are currently no OEB's that affect ECAM in your company (if I guessed the company right!)

I guess once there is an OEB that does supercede ECAM, either they will activate the OEB reminder in stead of showing the ECAM procedure. Or there will be an appropriate NTC and you would brief it anyway on the first flight!

Just play the game in the meantime. Why not ask the question in the company forum here on PPRuNe? There are many trainers present in that forum.

Some digging in old manuals revealed that the ORX format is removed from the latest OMB. Make of it what you want.

mi68guel 5th Jul 2017 15:50

That's what I thought but the instructors still use the ORX.

PENKO 5th Jul 2017 16:11

ORX is not wrong per sé. OEB's relate to many things, not only ECAM. So just play the game if that's the way the game is played by the instructors. I'll dig further, see if I can find any mention of a change to procedures.

We have a hierarchy:

1.Memory items.
2,Flight Staff Instructions
3.OEBs
4.Resets
5.ECAM Actions.

This should prevent you from, for example switching off a generator due to high fuel temp. indication if you have just used the HF radio.

applecrumble 17th Jul 2017 10:54

What is ORX?

FlightDetent 17th Jul 2017 12:01

The latest release of FCTM clarifies this in a very appropriate and long overdue manner. The procedure has not changed since 6 or so years ago, but finally all the graphics and paragraphs convey the correct flow.

This was not the case until March, before which you could still pull an old standard wording from somewhere.

@mig68el: You are correct. OEBs preculde ECAM actions, and Airbus says so for YEARS.
@Metro Man: resets only after ECAM. Secure the failure first, reconfigure, and only then reset, not the other way around.
