tailpipe fire crew brief
I must say our cabin crew are generally very good and switched on and aware. The abandoned start would be very obvious to most and I'd fully expect them to be at mid cabin having a look and sorting themselves out preparing.
even without hearing from the cockpit the cabin crew should have an action plan even if they initiates their conversation with the cockpit. The idea is to seek assessment and calm to the passengers while taking actions.
Policies vary. Some airlines give CC the ‘authority’ to evacuate on their own assessment. They’re usually meant to try contact the FD before doing so.
In a carrier I once flew for there was a legendary EVAC initiated by a CCM who saw torching during engine start. No contact with FD - just went ahead with it solo. All SEP classes after that explained ‘torching’.
It should be part of their basic training anyway.
“Cabin Crew At Stations” is a good start.
