Special ILS X Runway 12 SJJ
Be very grateful if someone can help me with this.
The approach charts for special ILS X for 12 are annotated "authorisation required", can anyone tell me what is required to get that authorisation, is it company or pilot specific, and is sim training required? I have tried google and the AIP via the EADS website, but could find no reference. Thanks for your help.

Try to get in contact with the local CAA, they should have documents lining out how to get that special authorisation for the ILS X/S 12. They might have copied the process that Austrocontrol did for the special performance ILS in LOWS, which requires simulator training for all crews that have to be qualified as well as austrocontrol approved pre-calculated performance limits. But then, i might be completely wrong.
Just a guess:
a) for AOC commercial air transport, authorisation by the CAA of the state where the AOC is held (which may well involve liaison with the Bosnian-Herzegovinian CAA); and
b) for private ops, authorisation by the Bosnian-Herzegovinian CAA.
In both cases, authorisation of the PIC and for case a) authorisation of the AOC holder.
Sim training required? Possibly. The go-around looks a bit sporty. 5% on one engine might be tricky and therefore involve escape routes, for which sim training would be v useful.
Best advice would be to contact the airport and ask them what they want.

Have to say was very intrigued, having been there recently as PAX, how all arrivals seem to be able to use 12 on a daily basis. It seems it is more low viz/cloudbase that closes the place in winter for multiple days rather than significant tailwinds as such....
Does 30 ever get used for CAT? Would it be a circle-to-land?

Better from Above
Because of the terrain all of the Instrument approaches are for runway 12. Can't quote for other aircraft but for the 737 that means we would use that runway for landing up to a 15 kts tailwind. Above that you are right, it would be a circling approach, for which we need a cloud base of about 3300 feet above the airfield.
For Denti and Eckhard, thanks for your advice, it was the special ILS approach for Salzburg, for which I have done the sim training, which got me wondering about the approval for SJJ.

Did the sim for this, but never went. Performance was extremely marginal with several different go arounds depending on the situation... I'm guessing that Denti and Eckhard have it spot on.
