Auto Pilot engagement in A320

Who has to engage A/P in a A320. Is it the PF or PM on PF Request/Command? Thanks.

Depends on the SOP. Original Airbus SOP allows for the PF to engage AP himself.

My company OTOH wants the AP to be engaged by PM on PF's request. Either way, the airplane doesn't care

In total agreement with S n R.
I've watched scenarios in the sim where PM is busy and PF desperately wants to engage the AP but won't because it's not SOP.

Our manuals allow for either scenario.

SOPs are only to be followed when there is no alternative that would make the situation safer. If there is, scrap the SOP.
