Hi everyone! Can someone please tell me what does the GL or WL stand for in the model no. of the aircraft? As in 737-7GL(WL).

Boeing used customer codes to define who the plane was built for and thus you could figure out differences in the aircraft. Pan Am was assigned 21 as a customer code and therefore a 707-100 built for Pan Am was a 707-121. A 747-100 built for them was a 747-121. The customer codes stayed the same from the 707 through the 777. American was assigned 23 and a 707-100 built for them would be a 707-123. A 777-200 built for them would be a 777-223. Once Boeing got up to 99 they went back to 01 and after all the numbers were used up they started using letters and letter and number mixes. It's my understanding Boeing stopped using the codes on the 787.
