Base turn outside +/- 30 degree

Just a quick question.

If an approach has a base turn procedure (located over a beacon) and you arrive outside the 30 degree window for the direct entry, you would normally make a turn in the holding to be aligned with the outbound base turn.
Let's imagine that the inbound leg for the holding is aligned with the inbound track for the approach and you get established before the FAF/FAP would you then start the approach even though you haven't actually flown the published procedure which includes a base turn?

Obviously there's a practical way where you just stay on your well established inbound track and start the approach. But is the right way?
Doc 8168 is not very clear on that subject, I think.

If you look at EKVG Varga you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about.

ILS/LOC 12

Sorry, I'm not able to upload a picture of the chart.

Vagar - as your example, if unable to carry out the course procedure due to 30deg alignment being exceeded, then you would complete the necessary hold join to complete the approach. Correct as you state.

Be careful with what the published information is giving you. Two options at EKVG, 1) base turn (bold black line) or 2) enter the hold and on the inbound leg you can begin the approach, when the time comes.

So in answer to your question, yes you would continue off the aligned holding and approach if you were coming in within 30deg of the FAT

It does of course depends on what ATC want you to do
