Translation of Überbrückungsschalter

I am having a German document translated in to English and would appreciate a translation of 'Überbrückungsschalter'. This was a component fitted with a new intercom. Many thanks for any help offered.

"Überbrückungsschalter"

literally means something like "over bridging shelter" so I would guess you're looking at a switch of some kind. Exactly what kind of switch would depend on the situation (lamp switch, electrical switch etc).

Bus tie comes into mind, if talking about electricity.

There is an Intercom Emergency switch (OFF/ON) fitted, so I guess it is a bypass switch as suggested. Many thanks for your help.
