Post Crewsafety in 3rd world countires

Can anyone enlighten me about the safety of crews in third world countries (mainly Africa). It looks I will be travelling to Cameroon shortly for a 14 day period. It will involve regional flying in Cameroon and neighbouring counties (except Nigeria).
Does anyone have info or experience regarding tropical diseases/political stability/ATC system or anything that you think might be helpfull to know for a firsttimer in this region?
Many thanks.
