Seeking advise for CPL

Hi All

I am new to PPRuNe forum and seeking advise from other community members.

I am 39. Also am Seeking a career change from IT and looking at aviation as next profession of my choice and liking. Can you please advise, if it not too late to join aviation and seeking career opportunities in it?

Also, I am researching on flying schools located at Parafield Airport (YPPF). I spoke to one such school and have been offered training as follows:
  • Diploma of Aviation (CPL - Aeroplane)
  • Diploma of Aviation (Flight Instructor)

During my training, I will be trained and transitioned between DA20 > C172 > SR20. However, they are all single engine aircraft and I am curious how important is to train on twin engine planes?

Furthermore, how important is Instrument Flight Operations to seek a job in any airline?

I heard that Instrument rating can be earned later, but gaining hours is important. In fact instrument rating is much easier after you have some experience in flying. Can you please confirm, if this is true?

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts on this.

Look into it very seriously. Where do you want to live in the world? I remember doing my ATPLs at Bristol ground school - there was an Australian who said he was converting to EASA as there were so few flying jobs in Australia, and getting into an Australian airline was almost impossible. I have heard that the US are offering working visas to Australians now, you might want to look into that. FAA or EASA training would open up most of the jobs.

As for training, to get hired by an airline, you will definitely need a Multi Engine Instrument Rating. Everything is flown on Instruments with 2+ engines!
If you do PPL>CPL>MULTI>IR (not always in that order) you'll end up with 200-250 hours depending on where you do it. That COULD get you hired. If it doesn't, THEN do a FI course, and get an FI job to build hours.

Hi Rudestuff,

Thanks for your reply!

That's a handy information re the work visa in USA and Europe. I felt the same as you mentioned re MULTI and IR but I needed some confirmation around it.
