Need a bit o advise

My aplogies for posting such a long enquiry this thread..

Im an Indian living in UAE and 28 Yrs of age and totally form out of the aviation industry.
As a matter of fact I need some advise regarding taking up a Flight school in Phillipines,Canada or UAE...I have planned and is indecisive in joining a flying club as to which would be more helpful whether in the philipines or Canada that could provide me just an approved flying License with 200 Hrs of fly time-break up of which includes 170 hrs single engine, 10 hrs IR(Instrument Rating ) and 20hrs multi-engine in the respective countries.

Is this enough for me to get into any air operator as a cadet or as a S/O with some small cargo carrier.Or is there any other job in India or UAE that could help me gain some extra flying hours. In India bush flying(nil i guess) and pleasure flight oprtrs are very limited and moreover I may not have a DGCA endorsed license immediately, hence I would prefer UAE if i acquire a GCAA license.
FYI its not the Swiss or Virgin Atlantic tag that attracts me but flying and the personality that one gain as a Pilot is more important to me, Of course some money too is needed cos I may need to pay off my debts ASAP.Kindly advise me with your extensive experience as to what should one in my position be taking up.Also am I late for this since ageing close to 30....

I would request your advise on this.Or probably anything that u would suggest a person willing to enter this field. For sure will take up the training in fact the money crunch permits me to these flying schools alone Though Phillipines works out a cheaper option for me it take around a year of training however Canada works out just 6 months.I would also be pleased if you would tell me if doing with Emirates Flying School is favorable in acquiring me a job in UAE, not in jets though but in some pleasure flight oprtrs banner towing or some small time oprtr just to build hours.

FYI none of the abv mentioned schools offer a Flight instructor course, neither do i have enough greens to put further.

Once again pls dont get annoyed for polluting the thread.

Ah but look at rules of the poll. You only qualify as a 'pilot' if you work for an airline. Even though, it says I'm a pilot on my licence and I earn my living, sorry scratch my living as a pilot. I only qualify as a wannabee.

Actually, looking at the banner for this forum. I probably shouldn't be here as strictly speaking I don't qualify as a wannabee either

I suspect that there is a gap in the "rules" and the poll-starter didn't consider all those professional pilots who don't work for airlines. That would, indeed, exclude EVERY professional helicopter pilot for instance!!! It would also exclude all those who work for small charter companies, those who fly biz-jets and GA plus corporate pilots, emergency services pilots etc.

Possibly the intention was to exclude instructors!

Cheers

Suggestions in choosing the right cadet program

Hi,
I am from Bangalore. I am not too sure which cadet pilot program to go for.I feel it's the safest thing to do after the investment I make.I am already 25 yrs old and haven't even started with the ground training. Is it too late for me? Is there really a boom in the aviation industry.Would there be a certainty to get a job if I don't take up a cadet program and join Sabena directly. Can anyone please advise?

ashivnani, while I can't say anything intelligent about the current "boom/bust" situation in India, I can say without a doubt that 25 years is nowhere near too old to get started. It has much more to do with mindset than age, so I'd suggest you spend as much time as you can finding out exactly what you're getting into.

benonianto, I don't think anyone will simply give you a license based on your previous flight experience, but a US school would get you started quickly on an FAA PPL, IR and COMM based on your current flight time. Sorry I don't have an answer for you about the Philippines, but I've flown with a few Canadian-trained pilots who were obviously very well trained. The cheapest and easiest certificates still seem to be in the US, though.

Oh, as for the original purpose of this thread, I'm a 23 year old FO with an American regional airline. Certainly still a wannabe, but in a professional capacity... or something.

Wow, FO at 23. That sure is in the professional capacity.I don't think you find FO's at your age on our side. Thanks a lot for the tip. I did find out about Harv's in Canada and a few schoos in the US as well, but Sabena seems to be the only one that seems like a good choice. We have quite a lot of guys taking it up with Sabena.Plus, the cadet programs we have here, the airlines have all tied up with Sabena. What do you think of them? Any particular place in Canda?

Potato

thanks for your valuable comments...

My previous flight experience is Nil...I was wanting to start into it.

Well I have finally decided upon training with Emirates flying school in Dubai.Hopefully the batch is due June.As rightly said US would be cheaper.but this school is providing me a part time and would need 2 yrs for completion to a CPL.

The only worry is "Would an ATPL be a necessicity for a first job"?

The idea is once course finishes shall drag myself to India or search myself a job in GA within UAE.

Hey, are you aware of the Cadet Pilot program lauched by Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi. I think it will be easier for me to travel to Dubai than to the US. Didn't u consider joining one of the cadet program in India?

Which is better? Training in india? or in US?

I want to pursue the job of a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)

Where is the best place to go for it? And what are the job prospects for that in India if i do the CFI course from US??

abhay,

I have applied for Etihad. But I dont know if they are considering Expats.

For you if you can do it from US it would be better. Its less time consuming and you can start hunting for first jobs sooner.

Kingfisher, Spicejet and Indigo are the three. They have all tied up with United Aviation in Gurgaon. If you want to try for any of these three, you have to go through them. The ground studies are also conducted by them. Then they send you to Sabena in the US or someplace in Canada. They have tie ups with different flying schools. I don't think you can try for Spicejet anymore as they have an age limit of 25. That's exactly what happened with me as well. When I contacted them, they said I can't try for Spicejet, but I can still try for Kingfisher or Indigo.
