Becoming a freight dog
Hey guys.
I have been stalking, scanning, and reading PPrune for quite some time now.
I was wondering how does one become a freight dog? I have a decent amount of knowledge on how to be a commercial pilot and what not but I wonder how can I get into that route instead?
For example Fedex,etc that sends cargo worldwide, the guys that ships the stuff you buy online.
Any special license/rating required?
Do they have requirements like a commercial airline e.g no. of hours?
What are the benefits of being a freight dog as a whole? Like I ASSUME it is a less stressful environment
I really don't mind being one I just love the thought of flying no matter the conditions/environment/circumstance.
And I rarely see any cargo planes crashing in the news. No offence intended to any who have lost their loved ones due to air tragedies.

You have to be hired by a freight company. They're an airline just like BA or Singapore or Delta. Just their payload gets pushed or driven or led on v. the herd of passengers self loading. You can look up the hiring requirements for FedEx or UPS, they are in line with major US carriers. I don't know how it works with Sing Cargo or Cathay Cargo.
Getting rid of 100-400 potential problems helps but you end up with 9 classes of HazMat in quantities not authorized on passenger flights. And if one passenger doesn't fasten their seat belt when the seat belt sign is on I don't really care. If ten tonnes of oil field drill pipe decides to go walk about in the back end of the plane, that's a problem.
Cargo planes crash just like pax flights but rarely kill enough people to make the news.

And if you want to work for FedEx you need to hold a Green Card or be American. A 4-year degree in the US is also a must but it doesn't have to be aviation related.
