general rule is that if you are about to undertake any typerating/IR training, you have to have valid ME/IR typerating.
Or at least IR(A)/ME(SPA), which might be done once per 2 year on the simulator - FNPTII. This would allow you to keep your IR-ME without any valid class/typerating.
Shoudl you need any further info, please contact me, I am EASA examiner - FE, CRE, IRE, FIE, TRE.

Milan.pilot that is wrong.
It is to be extra safe but I'm agree with the others colleague as I have the same problem and the authority confirmed that:
To ISSUE (when you go to the office to get your new licence printed off) the IR ME shall be valid and of course it will as it has been renewed in the skill test during the LPC.
We are talking about the 2nd and subsequent type ratings.
This is well clear.
