First PPL, then ATPL?

Hi fellow pilots/future pilots

I found an interesting thing on the website on one of Belgian's best (or at least most known) flight schools: you can study your PPL for about €19.000. After this, you could upgrade your license to an ATPL license (with day- or eveningschool), for €7.300, while a 0 to ATPL training costs €87.200. Am I missing something or could you actually get your ATPL for 'only' €26.300 instead of €87.200?
The links:
BAFA -
and
BAFA -
(There is much more information on the Dutch version of the website)

Thanks in advance!

i think they are talking ATPL ground exams only. You would still need CPL, Night, IR, MCC and 150hours building.

Eu19,000 seems a bit steep for a PPL anyway, maybe that includes the hour building.

Indeed, the PPL training includes hours, but only 65. But technically speaking, if you'd find a good school that offers cheap rates for their planes, you could get your ATPL for a very low price?

Witticisms about the Euro aside, I can't see much benefit in paying somebody else to manage your hour building - which is basically what is being described here.

You can manage it yourself easily enough, and have a lot of fun doing so. Take the advice freely available on Pprune and other places, and you can make sure that it's adequately structured to ensure that you arrive at your CPL course well prepared to handle it well.

Indeed, a smarter choise would be to find a good flight club and fly a lot more for the same money.

I know some guys that got the PPL in Europe and then did HB in America with a sort of "temporary" FAA PPL. I can not remember clearly how this works but I do suggest you to use the Search button on PPRuNe.
It just one of the alternatives to try to spare some money.

For example, I've found a good flight school in the south of California where I would obtain a FAA PPL and HB up to 150 hours TT for less than $20000 which is more or less an amount around €14000/15000. Accomodation included.

Google is your friend, searched for hour building usa and the first link was:

The best value Hour Building Programs

Probably not the same place mentioned above but also looks better value.

Probably not the same indeed, but you never know. But damn, you could do at least a few 100 hours on the 152 and still spend less on your license than a zero-to-ATPL!

What you're realising here is simply that modular training is a lot cheaper than integrated.

Indeed, I just don't get why that is. It's not like modular is worse than integrated, right?

Are you saying that the price is 19.000 Euros, for total of 65 hours flight time for your PPL?

Yes, but you could probably do it for half the price at a flight club.

19000 Euro for a PPL is a total rip off!

They should be sent to prison for fraud!

Seriously though, modular at the moment works, as long as you have money for your TR after.

Less than half, probably 1/3! Go to USA, get a PPL, convert it, do some hour building there and you done
