Hello,
I'm quite ready for the M1 visa interview in London, in a week time but I'm getting nervous recently regarding the question's which the consulate might ask although I did some homework on it and fine with the document checklist. Well, I do understand each student’s case is different, but it will be very grateful if anyone willing to share their visa interview experience.
*Anyway I'm due start at EFT for their APP program on 11/02/13, if the visa is granted since all the rest is done.

Good luck is all I can say. Regardless of your nationality or colour/creed race etc they're complete (insert expletive) to everyone. Or at least the chap I had. And certain people wonder why their nation is disliked with folks like that doing visa interviews.

My m1 experience?

Wait in a que, got told to take a seat and wait for my number. Called up to the counter.
Hi how are you
- good how are you
So why are you going to america
- to do pilot training
And what are your intentions afterwards
-to come back to the UK and go for xyz airline of try for the RAF
How much does it cost
- x dollars
Who is paying for it
- me
Where are you living there
-student accom
Ok, heres your visa, thanks, bye!

Seriously, that was it....relly nice chap, in and out of the "interview" which was done at the counter for like 5 mins
And i am an ethnic minority so yeah, no big deal.
Regarding some of the interview questions, for my finances, theres a form they suggest you get that you fill out that outlined your finances and where it is coming from etc etc how much you will recieve per month, have you factored in living costs blabla, forgot what the form was to save the life of me but either way they didnt ask for it. On my form under the section where it says have you ever had firearms training, i was honest and said yes, via the RAF air cadets and got a letter from my commanding officer which stated that i had been certified by the MoD and also reaffirming my intentions to join the RAF or airlines when i come back. Again, didn't ask to see it though

My experience:

Queue outside the embassy for about 30 mins, get searched, surrender your phone etc., get a security pass, into the embassy to take a number. Wait for about an hour before the number is called. Go up to the counter and hand over the cheque, passport, forms and supporting documentation, go sit down. Called to the counter about 30 minutes later to be asked about intentions and funding; told to sit down. Called to the counter once more to get my documents back and told my passport would be in the post. Go drop back the security pass and collect my belt and phone. All in all about 3 hours I suppose, not the most exciting experience, but nothing intimidating! A lot more relaxed than I anticipated and worried over for months... Good luck!

The interview lasts approximately 60 seconds and the questions that are usually asked are the ones that tornadogr4 posted. It is strictly important that you do not tell them that you'd like to try to stay in the USA after flight training. You must tell them you want to get back in your homecountry after flight training and look for job in your homecountry or anywhere else but not in the USA.

Is it most important that you do not lie.
An M1 visa is a non immigrant visa solely for the purpose of training at a specific institution (Flight School). That Flight School -'own' you for the duration of your stay as they are sponsoring your presence in the US.
You are not permitted to work in the US.
On completion of the training you must leave the US as you are then out of status and will be kicked out when caught.
If you are contemplating a career that would then bring you back to the US at some point - the last thing you want is to be on record as having violated your stay as that will negatively impact your ability to get a future visa.

Other questions which can be asked can include such things as have you ever been arrested etc. Note - arrested - not charged... Even an arrest followed by being 'de- arrested' can and will result in no visa being granted.

Generally the interview is a formality.

You say all the rest is done..... You still need to get TSA approval and that starts after the Visa is granted.
You say your Visa interview is in the first week of the New Year - you might be cutting it a bit fine.
Have you already paid some $$ to the Flight School already?

I've request for AFSP training request earlier and been notified that TSA has accepted the documentation and thought of doing the finger print bit once in FL.
Yeah, I've paid deposit($1000) to get I-20.
